About Britvex

Our Team & Professional Qualifications — competence, responsibility and review.

The quality of accountancy and tax services depends on the people who undertake each task, the evidence they use and the oversight applied. Britvex focuses on role clarity, a defined client relationship and careful distinctions between personal qualifications, firm authorizations and regulated activities.

Our approach to expertise

Competence must be demonstrated by the work—not assumed from a job title.

A useful professional team is more than a list of impressive initials. The client should know whether a task involves bookkeeping, company accounts, tax compliance, Companies House administration, a specialist interpretation or a regulated service requiring a separate permission.

Accounting records

Bookkeeping & reconciliations

Reliable source data is the foundation of accounting conclusions. Work can include bank and ledger reconciliations, sales and supplier records, missing information checks and appropriate document trails.

Financial reporting

Annual & management accounts

Preparing statutory or management information requires accounting knowledge, review of balances, identification of adjustments and clear communication of the result.

Tax work

Compliance & technical judgement

Corporation Tax, Self Assessment, VAT and related planning require attention to current HMRC guidance, actual client facts, supporting evidence and the scope of any advice.

Company matters

Governance & authorised-agent activity

Companies House filings and identity checks operate under their own rules. The firm’s approved ACSP status does not replace an individual’s qualification or the company director’s responsibilities.

What qualifications mean

Individual credentials, employer claims and government registrations are different things.

ACCA, ACA, AAT, ATT and CTA describe different forms of individual professional education, membership or status. A person’s entitlement to use a designation depends on the issuing body’s rules and current standing. A practising certificate, where required, is another consideration; membership alone should not be treated as a universal licence for every engagement.

The fact that BRITVEX ADVISORY LTD has HMRC anti-money laundering supervision or is approved as a Companies House ACSP does not mean the company is accredited by ACCA, ICAEW or another professional body. Conversely, an individual professional-body qualification does not by itself give a firm permission to carry out a statutory audit, reserved legal work or other separately regulated activity.

Where a client reasonably needs to know the relevant professional credentials, the responsible person and the scope of the work should be identifiable and verifiable. Public credentials must never be invented to strengthen an advertisement.

Accountability in practice

Scope → Assign → Verify → Review → Approve → Record.

A practical quality-control sequence explains more about professional delivery than a generic promise to “take care of everything.” Each stage depends on the engagement and the records available.

01Scope

Decide what is actually being provided.

The engagement defines tasks, exclusions, fee basis, key obligations and which party must supply documents and approvals.

02Assign

Match work to the correct competence.

A task involving basic processing is different from one requiring technical tax interpretation, complex accounting or specialist regulated advice.

03Verify

Collect facts and supporting evidence.

Relevant statements, invoices, ledgers, identification evidence or company details are checked according to the job and risk.

04Review

Challenge material conclusions.

Reconciliations, calculations, inconsistent dates, unverified assumptions and unusual transactions may need clarification or a second review.

05Approve

Respect client and external authority.

Obtain the necessary client approval; maintain HMRC agent authority or ACSP identity procedures where applicable.

06Record

Leave a coherent audit trail.

Keep relevant working papers, communications, evidence and decisions within the retention and privacy requirements applying to the engagement.

Regulated boundaries

Not every professional service is the same kind of permission.

Companies House approval as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider is relevant to specified identity-verification and authorised-agent services. Its requirements include appropriate UK AML supervision. It is not an accreditation as a chartered accountant and does not make Companies House a guarantor of an agent’s advice.

HMRC agent access or authorisation lets an agent undertake specified tax actions with appropriate client consent. AML supervision imposes due-diligence, risk-assessment and monitoring duties. ICO registration relates to data-protection administration; compliance with UK data-protection law requires continuing practical controls.

If an engagement involves statutory audit, insolvency appointments, reserved legal representation, regulated investments or another activity requiring separate authorisation, those services must be assessed independently. Britvex should not imply permission it does not hold.

What clients can expect

A professional relationship that is understandable before a return is filed.

Britvex aims for clarity about the service, the communication path and the review process. A client can evaluate these concrete elements without relying on unverifiable team-size, retention-rate or guarantee claims.

Contact

A practical way to raise questions

Clients should be told the designated contact or service channel for their engagement, the information needed and how urgent deadline issues will be handled.

Documents

Requests related to actual work

Provide the relevant bank, sales, payroll, identity, tax and company materials required by the assignment. Sensitive data should be supplied through suitable channels.

Timetable

Clear filing responsibilities

Explain which items are periodic, which need client responses and which deadlines are statutory. Do not replace a timetable with an unconditional guarantee.

Escalation

Honest limits and specialist referral

Where the facts cannot support a conclusion or the matter requires separate authorisation, make the limitation visible and seek the right expertise.

Skills applied to real tasks

How role clarity connects to the services clients buy.

The same practice may undertake work requiring different levels of judgment. These links describe the actual services so you can assess the records, authority and review involved instead of relying on a generic claim that “the team handles everything.”

Bookkeeping

Source records and reconciliations

Routine accounting begins with bank reconciliations, sales and cost records, supported adjustments and explanations of unresolved items. The deliverable depends on both systems and source evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Our Team & Professional Qualifications: practical answers.

These answers help clients assess competence and authorisation without confusing a firm registration with an individual professional designation.

Is BRITVEX ADVISORY LTD an ACCA-accredited firm?

A firm-level ACCA or ICAEW status must be checked independently against the relevant body’s records. HMRC AML supervision and Companies House ACSP approval are different statuses and must not be described as professional-body accreditation.

Does being an ACSP mean everyone at the firm is a chartered accountant?

No. ACSP is a Companies House authorised-agent registration subject to specified conditions. It is not an academic or professional accountancy qualification for individuals.

How can I verify an accountant’s qualification?

Ask for the person’s name, relevant designation and, when appropriate, membership or certificate details. Verify the claim through the issuing professional body’s published directory or confirmation process.

What is the difference between ACCA and ACA?

They are different professional qualification and membership routes managed by their respective professional bodies. The individual’s current membership, permissions and practical experience matter for the actual service.

Can any accountant sign a statutory audit opinion?

No. Statutory audit is separately regulated and requires the appropriate auditor and firm registrations. General accountancy services or AML supervision alone do not grant those rights.

Who is responsible for my UK tax return?

The client remains responsible for the accuracy of the relevant information and obligations. An authorised tax agent may prepare and submit agreed returns subject to the client’s instructions and applicable rules.

Can Britvex act for me with HMRC?

Britvex can undertake relevant HMRC agent services where the necessary authorisation and service engagement are in place. The available actions depend on the tax and the agent permissions.

Does Britvex offer a named contact?

The agreed engagement should identify the appropriate client communication route and responsibility for the work. Do not infer that every task will always be performed by the same individual.

How are unfamiliar or complex tax issues handled?

Complex facts require documented research, technical review or specialist advice. If the work is outside agreed competence or authorisation, it should be escalated or separately referred.

Are team profiles and qualifications available?

Where appropriate, clients may request details about the responsible person and credentials relevant to their engagement. Public claims should reflect substantiated information rather than generic lists of professional initials.

What does HMRC AML supervision mean for client onboarding?

It means relevant anti-money laundering rules apply, including risk-based customer due diligence, appropriate monitoring and record-keeping requirements. The checks depend on the client and engagement.

Does ICO registration mean all data security risks disappear?

No. Registration does not eliminate privacy risks. UK GDPR compliance depends on practical controls including lawful processing, access management, retention and appropriate security.

Will my company director still approve accounts?

Yes. Directors retain statutory responsibility and must provide relevant approvals and information. An accountant’s involvement does not transfer all corporate duties to the adviser.

How do I discuss a specialist engagement?

Describe the task, industry, relevant UK entity, deadlines, source records and whether legal, audit, investment, insolvency or other regulated advice may be required. Britvex can discuss an appropriate scope or referral.
